Is R$18 for a beer at Praça da Sé normal in 2026?
For a sit-down bar right on Sé, R$18 is normal now, though a boteco a few blocks down toward Liberdade would charge R$12 to R$14.
yeah and honestly the happy hour pricing before 7pm is where the gap really shows, like R$9 vs R$18 for the same chopp
Agree, but check if they charge couvert, that adds R$10.
the Liberdade side makes sense since rents drop fast once you cross toward Rua Galvão Bueno. one thing tho, a lot of those cheaper botecos only take cash or pix, so don't count on card.
Praça da Sé is a sketchy area after dark so factor a taxi back into your budget, that's the real cost there.
Metrô Anhangabaú side is safer, fewer eyes on Sé itself
Fair point. I'd add that after 9pm even the taxi queue gets thin, so use the 99 app from inside the bar rather than hailing on the street. Walk with purpose and keep your phone out of sight.
That taxi surcharge is real but the bigger hit is the minimum fare on the apps when traffic backs up around Pátio do Colégio. I usually walk down to Rua Direita and catch one from the wider corner, drivers actually stop there.
