Brunch da Catedral da Sé worth it in 2026?

Visiting Sao Paulo in March and staying near the Sé cathedral. Is the Brunch da Catedral da Sé actually good or just a tourist thing? Any idea what it costs and if I need to book ahead? I did the cathedral brunch on a past trip and it's more about eating inside the Sé complex than about the food, which is solid buffet fare but nothing you'd cross town for. I'd check the current price on the cathedral's own site since it shifts, and yes, book ahead for weekends because March gets busy. Honestly the better morning move is a padaria near Praça da Sé, then the cathedral visit on its own.

Pão de queijo at Mercado Municipal instead.

The mortadella sandwich at Hocca Bar upstairs is the real reason to make that detour, not the cheese bread.

Skip the cathedral buffet, but note that Mercado Municipal closes early on Sundays and the surrounding streets empty out, so go Saturday.

Mercado's a solid call but its cheese bread gets cold fast, grab a fresh batch from a padaria instead

Fair warning that the good cheese bread spots there sell out by mid morning, so go early.

Yeah book ahead, but honestly the cathedral museum upstairs is the sleeper hit, way more memorable than the buffet itself.

Sao Paulo dating norms 2026: where do people meet?

Do people mostly meet through apps, or is it still common to strike up something in person at bars and botecos? I've heard the after work happy hour scene around places like the Baixo Augusta and corners near Praca da Se is where a lot of it happens, but I'd rather hear it straight from people who've done it.

Apps get you the first date, but the second usually happens at a boteco. I'd add the Pinheiros bar strip on Rua Aspicuelta and the Sunday feira in Vila Madalena, daytime mingling there feels more natural than nightclubs.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

honestly the app thing dominates now but botecos still matter, just less at happy hour and more late. baixo augusta on a thursday is a lot of people already paired off, so i'd look at pinheiros spots or bars near vila madalena instead. praça da sé at night is not the move tbh

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Yeah, that tracks, though I'd say late-night botecos in Itaim or near Paulista pull a slightly older crowd than the Augusta scene.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Agree on the late shift. Copan's ground floor bar draws a mixed crowd too.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Late is right, but the vibe shifts by neighborhood. A bar in Santa Cecilia on a Friday fills up after 11 with people actually talking to strangers, which is rarer in the more polished spots. Praca da Se I'd skip entirely, day or night.
