for a solid mid-range day, i'd budget around 150-200 reais per person. lunch at a good padaria or self-service por quilo place like viena or pão de queijo shops runs you 25-35 reais for a full plate with juice. dinner at a decent boteco on rua américo brasiliense with a couple of chopps will be around 60-80. ubers are cheap, most rides across town are 15-20 reais. skip the overpriced tourist spots and hit the feira noturna on quintino bocaiúva for cheap acarajé and caldo de cana, tastes better and costs half of what you'd pay in the centro

Head to the Praça XV de Novembro on weekend evenings for the best pastel stalls, where fried pastries filled with cheese or meat cost around R$ 12. For a quick snack, try a coxinha from Lanchonete do Zé (Rua Duque de Caxias, 890), a local favorite at R$ 6 each.

ngl the guide nailed the mercado municipal but if you go early on saturday morning around 7am you'll find the best pão de queijo straight out of the oven from a lady called dona maria at the back corner stall, it's like r$ 3 each and way better than the ones at the front

for a different vibe try the japonese food at temakeria & cia on rua são paulo, their hot roll combo is r$ 35 and it's a solid lunch spot that doesn't get mentioned enough in these lists

also the boteco do gaúcho recommendation is solid but i prefer bar do zé on rua general osorio for the same price chopp and way better bolinhos de bacalhau, the owner is usually there and will tell u stories about the city
