if you want something more lowkey and local, skip the cpa clubs and hit up the bars near the ufma campus on avenida beira rio. there's this place called bar do seu zé that's basically a shack but they serve ice cold skol and fried cheese balls for like 6 reais. later on you can walk over to the samba circle at praça das bandeiras on fridays, it's free and gets really lively after 10pm. just watch your phone in the crowd though

Head to Avenida Isaac Póvoas for a solid strip of bars that stay busy most nights. I'd start at Boteco do Juca for a cold Brahma and some petiscos, then wander down to Bar do Gordinho if you want live music later. For actual dancing, clubs on Avenida do CPA like Villa Mix can get packed on weekends but cover charges are steep, around 50 reais.

Honestly skip the tourist traps on CPA and hit up Beco do Candeeiro instead. It's this narrow alley near the center with like 5 tiny bars crammed together, gets wild after midnight when the forró starts playing. Try the caldo de piranha at Bar do Baiano if you're feeling adventurous, it's surprisingly good after a few beers. Just be ready for cash only, none of those places take card
