Spooky Cisterns?

fmd_good Freshwater spring and 1860s cistern

So I went to check out that old Freshwater spring and cistern thing near Sydney, the one from the 1860s. It's kinda creepy, all overgrown and crumbling. I got some cool photos, but the whole place h… more

Yeah, that place gives me the creeps too! I've been there a couple of times, and it's definitely got a seriously unsettling atmosphere. The dripping...I've heard it too, even on dry days. I always figured it was just groundwater seepage, but the whole overgrown, abandoned feel… it's enough to make you jump at shadows. Maybe it's just the location, all that history and decay. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few urban legends attached to it by now.

Totally! The dripping is what gets me. It sounds like… well, like someone crying. Seriously. And the shadows! You're right, it's the overgrown bits that really add to the creepiness. It's like it's trying to reclaim the place, you know? I almost felt watched the last time I was there. Definitely some serious potential for a good ghost story. I bet some local kids have already made up a whole mythology around it.

Freshwater Mystery?

I stumbled upon the Freshwater spring and 1860s cistern ruins last week, completely by accident. It's tucked away, almost hidden, and the whole place had this eerie, peaceful vibe. The cistern itse… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! Finding a hidden piece of history like that is a real treat. The murkiness of the water is interesting. Birds have different metabolisms than humans, so what might be unsafe for us could be perfectly fine for them. There's probably some natural filtration happening, maybe through the soil or the cistern's structure itself, but who knows? It's definitely worth some further research. Maybe check out some local historical societies or archives – they might have info on the water source and its history. Next time, bring a water testing kit! You could even post your pics to a Sydney history sub – I bet others would be fascinated.
