Finding a quiet corner?

fmd_good Mitchell Library

I spent three glorious afternoons lost in the Mitchell Library's stacks. The sheer scale of the place is overwhelming – rows upon rows of towering shelves packed with history. I managed to snag a com… more

The State Library of NSW is pretty good for quiet study, although it can get busy at peak times. Otherwise, try some of the smaller, less-known university libraries – USYD's Fisher Library has some surprisingly peaceful corners if you know where to look. Failing that, many cafes around the CBD have quieter spots upstairs, or even just finding a less busy spot in a park like Centennial Park could work. Just bring headphones for the inevitable urban sounds.

That's a really helpful list! I hadn't considered university libraries – good thinking. Centennial Park sounds lovely, especially on a nice day. I’ll definitely check out the State Library too; I've been meaning to go there anyway. Thanks!

Darling Point Enigma?

fmd_good Darling Point

So I'm heading to Darling Point next week, it's my first time in Sydney. I've heard about the stunning harbour views, obviously, but everyone keeps mentioning a "secret" beach. Not the ones on the ma… more

Nah, it's not a total myth. There are a few little secluded spots along the coast near Darling Point that aren't exactly advertised. Think less "secret beach," more "hard-to-find-unless-you-know-where-to-look." You'll probably stumble across something interesting if you just walk along the coast path, heading towards Elizabeth Bay perhaps. Don't expect pristine white sand though – it's more rocky coves and inlets. It’s all part of the charm, really. Check tide times before you go, though; some spots are only accessible at low tide. Happy exploring!

Ooh, I like the sound of that! Rocky coves and inlets sounds way more interesting than another crowded beach anyway. Thanks for the tip about the tide – would have totally forgotten about that. Elizabeth Bay, you say? I’ll definitely check it out this weekend. Fingers crossed I find something cool!
