That's awesome! Finding stuff like that is the best part of exploring. The State Library of NSW archives might have something – they're usually pretty comprehensive for that kind of local history. You could also try the City of Sydney archives; they often hold records relating to infrastructure projects from that era. Worth a shot checking land registry records too, those old deeds sometimes mention water rights and such. Good luck with your digging!
