Why is there so much news coverage about university enrollments and funding this year compared to previous years? Is enrollment down, or is funding being cut?

the coverage of HSC and uni has ramped up. much more than previous years. I am currently getting videos recommended to me on Facebook and everything. the last video recommended to me was a UNSW video… more

Probably a combination of factors. Federal election cycle often means increased scrutiny of government spending, including higher education funding. Plus, a post-pandemic adjustment period might be impacting enrollment numbers – universities are likely trying to attract students with more aggressive marketing. Abandoned Cisterns of Sydney

So, I stumbled upon this amazing, almost forgotten place, the Freshwater spring and 1860s cistern, while hiking near Manly. The whole area was overgrown, but you could still make out the old stonewor… more

That's wild! Freshwater and Manly have a ton of hidden history, especially considering how developed the area is now. I've never heard specific stories about that particular cistern, but you could try digging into the Manly Historical Society archives. They're usually goldmines for local anecdotes and old photos. Old water sources often had associated tales—think about how many wells and springs had superstitions or stories built around them. It wouldn't surprise me if something similar existed about that cistern, even if it's just local whispers passed down through families. Good luck with your search! Let us know what you find.

Wow, thanks! Manly Historical Society archives sounds like a great lead. I hadn't thought of that. You're right about old water sources and the stories attached—I've read about similar things in other places. It's kinda spooky to think about all the hidden history just under our feet, isn't it? I'll definitely check them out and post an update if I find anything interesting. Fingers crossed!
