🏙️ City Center Hub
The city center is ideal for first-time visitors who want to be close to major attractions like the main square and museums. Hotels here range from mid-range chains like Hotel Central ($$) to luxury options such as The Grand Palace ($$$$). Expect higher prices but unmatched convenience, with most sights within a 15-minute walk.

🌆 Artsy East Side
The East Side is perfect for digital nomads and creatives, with co-working spaces like WorkBase and trendy cafes. Accommodations include budget hostels like The Loft ($) and boutique hotels like ArtHouse ($$). The area buzzes with street art and indie galleries, making it great for those who love a vibrant, alternative scene.

🌳 Quiet Suburban Retreat
For families or travelers seeking peace, the Green Valley neighborhood offers spacious Airbnbs and family-run guesthouses. Parks like Riverside Park provide playgrounds and picnic spots, while local markets sell fresh produce. Prices are moderate ($$), and the area is a 20-minute bus ride from downtown.

🍸 Nightlife District
The West End is the go-to for nightlife lovers, packed with bars, clubs, and live music venues like The Jazz Cellar. Stay at party hostels like ClubHouse ($) or upscale hotels with rooftop bars, such as SkyView ($$$). Noise can be an issue, so bring earplugs if you plan to sleep early.

🏖️ Beachfront Bliss
If you want sun and sand, the Coastal Strip has resorts like Seaside Inn ($$$) and budget-friendly hostels like Surf Shack ($). The area is great for water sports and seafood dining, with beach bars open until late. It is a 30-minute train ride from the city center, ideal for a relaxed stay.

🚇 Transit-Friendly Zone
The Station District is a smart choice for travelers relying on public transport, with the main train and bus hub nearby. Hotels like Transit Lodge ($) and Metro Hotel ($$) offer affordable rates and easy connections to the airport and suburbs. The area has fewer attractions but is quiet and practical.

💰 Budget-Friendly Picks
For backpackers, the Old Town has numerous hostels like Backpacker's Haven ($12 per night) and cheap guesthouses. Street food stalls and markets keep meal costs low, and many attractions offer free walking tours. Book early for summer, as budget options fill up fast.

🏨 Luxury Escapes
High-end travelers should look at the Hilltop district, home to five-star hotels like The Ritz-Carlton ($$$$) and private villas with panoramic views. These properties offer spas, fine dining, and concierge services. The area is secluded but a short taxi ride from the city center.

honestly the artsy east side is where it's at if u want the real local vibe. i stayed at arthouse last year and the staff pointed me to a hidden courtyard cafe called kaffee keller that doesn't show up on maps, best pastries in the city for like 3 euros. the street art changes every few months too, there's a guy who does these massive animal murals near the old factory district that are worth the walk

The guide is right about the Station District being practical, but it's also where you'll find some of the best cheap eats. There's a late-night kebab spot called Istanbul Grill just off the main square that does a killer lamb wrap for 5 euros, and it's open until 3am. I've stayed at Transit Lodge a couple times when I had early trains, and while the rooms are basic, the 24-hour front desk means you can drop your bags at 6am without hassle.

🚇 Metro and Rail Options
The metro line connects the airport to downtown in about 30 minutes for a flat fare of €5. Trains run every 10 minutes from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM. Purchase tickets at the automated machines near arrivals; they accept credit cards and cash.

🚌 Airport Bus Services
Express buses depart every 20 minutes from the airport bus terminal to the central station. The journey takes 45 minutes and costs €8 one way. Tickets can be bought online or from the driver, but online is cheaper at €7.

🚕 Taxi and Ride-Hailing
Official taxis from the airport to the city center cost a fixed €35, including luggage. Avoid unlicensed drivers who approach you in the arrivals hall; always use the official taxi rank. Uber and Bolt are available but surge pricing can double the fare during peak hours.

🚗 Car Rentals and Parking
Major rental agencies like Hertz and Avis have desks in the arrivals area. A compact car costs around €40 per day with full insurance. Short-term parking at the airport is €3 per hour, while long-term lots offer €15 per day.

💡 Avoiding Taxi Scams
Always confirm the fixed fare before getting into a taxi. Scammers often claim the meter is broken and demand inflated prices. Use only the official taxi queue and refuse rides from touts inside the terminal.

📱 Booking Tips and Apps
Book airport transfers in advance through apps like Welcome Pickups for a fixed rate of €30. Public transport tickets can be purchased via the city's official transit app, which also shows real-time schedules. For ride-hailing, compare prices on Uber and Bolt before confirming.

🕐 Late Night Arrivals
After midnight, metro and bus services stop running. Taxis and ride-hailing are the only options, with a surcharge of €5 added to the fare. Pre-book a private transfer to avoid long waits at the taxi rank.

The metro is definitely the best value, but if you're arriving during rush hour it gets packed between Hauptwache and Konstablerwache. I've had better luck with the express bus when I have a suitcase because there's dedicated luggage racks and you get a seat more often.

One thing the guide doesn't mention is that the transit app lets you buy a group day ticket for up to five people for about €15. If you're traveling with friends or family that covers the whole city network including the airport run. Way cheaper than five individual metro tickets.

For late night arrivals I'd skip Uber entirely and just go for the official taxi rank. The surcharge is annoying but at least the price is predictable. I once waited 40 minutes for a surge-priced Uber that never showed and ended up paying more for a taxi anyway.
